Wailua Riverside Hideaway Cottage

Description

Welcome to Wailua Riverside! This is a perfect place to experience the real Kauai - in a residential setting with views of the Wailua River. Wailua Riverside is a cozy upstairs, tree top cottage, newly furnished Hawaiiana style, fully equipped kitchen, master bedroom with queen bed, den with sofa couch that converts to a full size bed, and a covered lanai offering outdoor dining. Wailua Beach is a block away and the sound of ocean waves hitting the beach will lull you to sleep each night. From your bed or lanai, watch as breathtakingly beautiful pink skies form through swaying coconut trees at sunrise.

Located at the Sacred Wailua River, where only the ancient Hawaiian Royalty were allowed to visit, Wailua Riverside is a two minute walk to an awesome eight-mile shoreline of uncrowded, sandy beaches. You are steps from a dock where you can launch your own kayak unto the Wailua River to explore and find the trail to Secret Waterfalls, which has a natural swimming hole at its base. Water skiing, Wakeboarding, and Speed Boating are also available from the same dock!

Within a mile of the Hideaway you will find: Ancient Hawaiian ruins; a Hawaiian village; Opaeka'a Falls; Lydgate Park offering protected ocean swimming, a 2.2 mile jogging trail and Smith's Tropical Paradise offering one of the best island Luau's. Grocery stores, souvenir shops and most of the island's restaurants are available within a 3 mile radius.

Further up the road is Kauai's Hindu Monastery, an incredible place, set in an absolutely idyllic environment next to the Wailua River and a stupendous waterfall, a must see!

Centrally located for optimal island exploration and also enjoy the many activities nearby: Kayaking (kayak included!), Hiking, Biking, Golf, Fishing, Wildlife Viewing, Horseback Riding, Shopping, Restaurants, Sightseeing, Swimming, Snorkeling, Diving, Boating, Sailing, Waterskiing, Surfing, Windsurfing, Parasailing, Jet Skiing, and Shelling.

Guest Comments:

Dear Candace,

Our many thanks for your hospitality during our stay at your Wailua "hideout". We loved being "far from the maddening crowd", yet close enough to Kapa'a to secure anything we might need. You've thought of everything! beach needs, kayak, snorkeling equipment - no need to rush out & buy or rent... The use of a washer, dryer, & all kitchen appliances make it "just like home".
I've always said, "I'm not a beach person" and then I came to beautiful Kauai! The North Shore is gorgeous: Ke'e Beach & all the other "hideaway beaches" were FAB!
And, as a hostess, your are the best! Warm, thoughtful and gracious. Thanks for making our stay so memorable!
Mahalo!

Dear Candace,

Grant and I had an incredible time on Kauai and the "Hideaway" made it extra special. We couldn't have picked a more magical place then this to get married and honeymoon on.
We traveled as far North as the road would take us and as far west as the dirt road allowed. There were so many highlights on this trip but the two that top the list were Polihale on the west side, 17 miles of beach with barely anyone else around, and the hike up to Mount Wai'ale'ale, again not too many people around. Kayaking up the Wailua River and hiking to Secret Falls was also an amazing experience. Everything on this Island just bombarded your senses, all the tropical greening and flowers, the Plumeria in particular, the birds singing every morning, even the sound of rain in the middle of the nights.
Some sights we enjoyed were the Kilauea Lighthouse and watching all the birds, snorkeling at Tunnels Beach and then stopping off at Hanalei Mixed Plate for a delicious lunch/dinner. Poipu Beach was great for swimming and we even saw some Dolphins out by the rocks to the left. Another great beach on the Southside was Maha'ulepu. You have to drive along a dirt road with potholes to get there but well worth it.
On the West Side I highly recommend driving out to Polihale again a dirt road with potholes but once you arrive you'll be glad you made the journey. Definitely stop in at Jo Jo's for a shave ice. The shave ice was delicious and the experience of being in that shop was entertaining to say the least!
The Waimea Canyon was an incredible sight as was the Kalalau Valley, definitely go to the Pu'o O Kila Lookout to view the Valley. If the road is closed, walk in for a mile, the view is definitely worth it.
One of our favorite things to do at the end of the day was head down to the dock and enjoy twilight down there. It is incredibly relaxing and your eyes just can't get enough of all the beauty that surrounds you.
Mahalo Candace!

What a treasure we have found in your beautiful Hideaway on the Wailua River! And what a treasure you are as well! When I spoke with you on the phone, I felt you had been a friend for all my life, such was your warm and joyful personality. And when we arrived - Wow! What a welcome of Aloha! Your place is beautiful with everything we could have needed or wanted. We made a good use of your kayak, which was an added bonus, the basket of mangoes you left on our doorstep were eaten with relish, and we took your advice on the Fresh Fish Express. Greg fixed grilled (& marinated) Mahi-Mahi last night with a fire-roasted beurre blanc - Yum! Mahalo many times over!

May 24 to 28, 2005, from the guestbook:

We have spent the last 2 weeks exploring Kauai on our Honeymoon. Our final 4 day stop here we were warmly greeted by Candace and immediately felt at home. We kayaked up the river and discovered a Hawaiian village with peacocks wandering about.... The central location of Candace's Hideaway allowed us to return to our favorite spots and discover others. We wish we had stayed here first but are so glad we ended our journey in such a cozy cottage. Our last night we went across the river to Smith's Tropical Paradise to a farewell Luau. We highly recommend this event to all who read: good food, great show, wandering around the lush garden was a delight!
So now we are very sad to leave this magical island but take with us memories that will last the rest of our lives. One day we know we will return. It was such an adventure to explore, snorkel, hike in the jungle. Our favorite beach was Poli Hale on the north east, oops, west coast at the very edge of the Na Pali coast, big waves, wide open beach. It was at this spot on the farthest shore we ran into some friends from back home! Can you believe that?
Thank you Candace for everything! Your warm welcome will not soon be forgotten!
Enjoy everyone!

Aloha Candace,

Thank you for renting this beautiful tree house hideaway to our family of three. We are so happy we chose this place to stay and vacation. We love the central location and access to your kayak on the Wailua River! This place is truly beautifully decorated 'Hawaiian Style'. We felt right at home here with all the amenities you provided! We are so thankful to visit this beautiful, aromatic, colorful island. Our favorite place to visit was Hanalei Beach. It was very quiet and relaxing. We even got to swim next to a sea turtle! All sides of this Island have something to offer. We will definitely be back to Kauai for vacation. Candace, one again, a big Mahalo to you for your big warm smile and generosity. We enjoyed meeting you and hope to see you again.
One Love,
