State parks to get improvements

The state is spending 5 million dollars for improvements at six state parks on Kauai and the Big Island. The largest allocation is 1.5 million dollars. It will be used to improve the three-mile stretch of road between Kokee State Park headquarters and Kalalau Lookout on Kauai. Also on the Garden Island, $500,000 will be spent to construct a wastewater treatment system at Haena State Park. On the Big Island, 1.2 million dollars will cover handrail and pathway improvements at Akaka Falls State Park. And $800,000 will fund improvements to the water transmission system at Wailoa River State Park. Preparation of master plans and environmental impact statements for projects at Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park and Kiholo Bay State Park will cost a total of 1 million dollars.
