Merriman will open Kauai restaurants
Chef Peter Merriman will take his brand of Hawaii Regional Cuisine to Kauai, with two new restaurants set for Kukuiula Village, a shopping center scheduled to open in Koloa early in 2009. The move will include both a fine-dining and casual restaurant, styled after 1930s Hawaiian plantation homes.
Merriman's Kauai will offer a dinner menu featuring fresh fish, while Merriman's Cafe will serve casual Mediterranean fare for both lunch and dinner.
The chef has committed to buy local produce for the restaurants, a practice already employed by Merriman's Restaurant on the Big Island.
"We have been buying locally for 20 years and look forward to working with Kauai farmers," he said in a press statement.
The Kukuiula Village shopping center, to be located adjacent to the luxury community under development by Kukuiula Development Co., will offer a 91,600-square-foot home to an assortment of retailers and restaurants. Clothing companies Tommy Bahama and Quiksilver, eyewear and watch company Sole Mio and jeweler Maui Divers will move into spaces.
