The Hawaiian Luau

Traditionally, Hawaiians had many occasions for feasts and celebrations: battle victories; seasonal events; and for welcoming guests. These events often involved days of planning and preparation.

Today, the luau is an elaborate Hawaiian feast featuring traditional foods and entertainment. These are usually outdoor, buffet style with torch-lit tables of sumptuous foods, drinks, and desserts for the whole family. Entertainment consists of spirited Polynesian song and dance. Aloha attire is appropriate.

Sheraton Kauai Luau

Surf to Sunset LUAU

This Garden Isle oceanfront luau is at the premiere property on Poipu Beach, the Sheraton Kauai Resort. Just footsteps from the crescent shaped white sandy beach, the Surf to Sunset Luau is an ideal event for the entire family. Featuring award winning entertainment, an extensive menu for all tastes, and numerous cultural facets. The luau is held twice weekly on Monday and Friday.

The elaborate banquet features both traditional Hawaiian delicacies, such as fresh sweet pineapple, kalua pig, lomi salmon, pipikaula, poke and poi, as well as dishes that are inspired by the numerous ethnic foods that are enjoyed by the people of modern Hawaii, such as Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and Thai-inspired foods. The abundant spread is perfectly finished with desserts featuring tropical island flavors like guava chiffon pie, coconut coated haupia, pineapple upside down cake and chocolate macadamia nut cake.

Guests may choose from the Traditional package: $75.00 per adult & $37.00 per child (age 6-12) for an evening of buffet dining and fine entertainment. The Golden Circle package: $99.00 per adult & $49.00 per child (age 6-12), which includes premier stageside seating; table service with salads, appetizers and beverages served "family style"; signature lei. Special rates for Kama'aina are available. Kama'aina Tradiational $64.00 per adult & $31.50 per child (age 6-12). Children 5 & under eat free. Pricing for all packages include beverages (soft drinks, mai tais, beer, wine, mixed drinks), tax and gratuity. Prices and menu inclusions are subject to change.

Pa'ina 'O Hanalei

The heralding of the conch shell announces the beginning of the Pa'ina and invites visitors and guests to participate in the traditional Imu ceremony. The spectacular backdrop to this unique Hawaiian luau is picturesque Hanalei Bay.

The beauty of Polynesian dance and culture are featured at Pa'ina O' Hanalei, beachside luau. Enjoy delectable fresh island cuisine topped off with the excitement of "Tahiti O' Hanalei." From the shores of Tahiti, New Zealand, Samoa, and Hawaii, guests enjoy the music and dance of Polynesia.

Smith's Tropical Paradise

Featuring a garden luau and Polynesian Review; run by the folks who take you up the Wailua River to the Fern Grotto. The Gardens open at 5:00 pm allowing you to stroll through the magnificent grounds. You may purchase a tram token that gets you on board a narrated tour of the grounds at 5:30. The grounds boast over 20 types of exotic fruit trees, among the other native plants. You'll be sharing the grounds with exotic peacocks and singing tree ducks! At 6:00 pm, the Imu Ceremony begins. Your dinner has been cooking all day in the underground oven. Watch as it is ceremoniously lifted out. At 6:15 pm, cocktails and music begin. Mai tais, beer, wine, standard bar drinks and soft drinks are available throughout the dinner hour. The musicians entertain throughout your meal with appealing melodies and humor. At 6:30 pm, the Luau begins. Tables are dismissed one at a time to go through the line of international foods.
