Can I walk to the beach? Yes, a paved path leads to a large and lovely white-sand beach just below the resort. This is a great beach for sunning and snorkeling. The Princeville Hotel operates a restaurant here and you can also rent sea kayaks when the bay is calm. The walk down to the beach is about 8-10 minutes or you can have the bellman shuttle you down and back in shuttle (golf) carts.

There are several shopping centers on Kauai, including the Princeville Center located at the entrance to Princeville (about 2 miles from Hanalei Bay Resort) where you'll find a grocery store, several small shops, ice-cream, banks, a couple of restaurants, and even a library. You'll find even more shopping in Hanalei town about 6 miles from the resort.

Makai Course rates are $125 and guests pay $110. After 1:30, rates are $85. Rates for 18 holes include green fees, cart, and range balls. Along with the exercise facility, one-on-one personal training, aerobic dance floor, 25 meter lap pool and outdoor whirlpool, a wide range of massage, facial and body treatments are available.
Any restaurants you'd recommend? There are dozens of good restaurants close by. Guests love: The Bali Hai Restaurant at Hanalei Bay Resort; the Hanalei Dolphin, Postcards Cafe, and Pizza Hanalei to name a few in the town of Hanalei; Chuck's Steakhouse at the Princeville Shopping Center; and The Roadrunner Cafe in Kilauea. Don't forget the four restaurants next door at The Princeville Hotel. I'd also recommend the Princeville Hotel's breakfast buffet and twice weekly luau: Poolside on Monday and Thursday at 6:00 P.M. If I want a quick casual meal close by, I eat at the Happy Talk Lounge and enjoy the relaxing entertainment right on property at Hanalei Bay Resort. See this helpful Kauai Restaurant Guide for more information.
What is there to do on the Island? Well, there's sightseeing, shopping, sunning, hiking, snorkeling, swimming, tennis, golf, and exploring beaches and restaurants. You can visit the concierge and information desk on the property and have them assist you with arranging: helicopter rides, boat tours, luaus, golf, surfing, surf lessons, kayaking, scuba diving, horseback riding, canoeing, and all sorts of equipment rentals. They can also provide island information and help steer you to fun things to do.
How do I get to Kauai?
United Airlines flys direct to Lihue (LIH) from San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Delta Airlines does not fly to Lihue but does offer direct flights to Honolulu from Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Cincinnati, and Atlanta.
Aloha Airlines flys to Lihue from Oakland, CA as well as daily "inter-island" flights from Honolulu.
Hawaiian Airlines flys several inter-island flights to Lihue from Honolulu and Maui.
Flight time to Kauai from Honolulu is about 30 minutes.
Do I need to rent a car? Yes, you will need a car at the Lihue Airport. You'll want a car for sightseeing, shopping, and getting around. Nearly all major rental car companies including Avis, Dollar, and Thrifty Car Rentals are on Kauai. During busy times, cars rentals can become limited, so make your reservations early.
Does Kauai Have A Night Scene? Not really ... If you are looking for nightlife, stay in Honolulu. However, Hanalei Bay Resort is a music-lover's gem, with a Sunday Jazz Jam in its Happy Talk Lounge from 3 to 7pm Sunday, and contemporary Hawaiian music in the same lounge Monday through Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30pm. Al Jarreau and Quincy Jones are among those who have stopped by the Sunday Jazz Jam, and the evening crowd has had its share of well-known Hawaiian jammers. On Saturday evening, Kenny Emerson, a fabulous guitar and steel guitar player, performs with Michelle Edwards; if they play "Hula Blues" or any other 1920s to 1940s hits, you'll never leave... Or, at least not until 9:30.
How Close Is Hanalei Bay Resort to the Princeville Hotel? Very close. The two properties are exactly adjacent to each other and little more than a stone's throw away...well okay if you've got a really good arm... However, each property sits on its own bluff and a deep ravine separates the two. Guests easily walk back and forth, or shuttle, using each property's beach access. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from HBR down the beach path to the Princeville's pool; there you can take their elevators up to their lobby, restaurants, conference rooms, etc. Keep in mind that walking back up to HBR is a steep hike in dress shoes; you might consider calling HBR's bellman to meet you at the bottom of the hill for a free ride up.
Is Internet Service Available?
Internet Service is Available to each of the condos through Time Warner at $9.95 per day or $39.95 per week plus tax. The internet access fee is paid directly to Time Warner by the guest when they access the internet service. There is also a 'fee based' internet service available in the lobby of the Resort for guests who prefer to travel without their own laptop.
