Kapakai - Hawaiian for "coastline", or "the water's edge" - you will understand this home's given name when you take in the stunning view of the Poipu coastline from the upper deck. This hale is a fantastic base to enjoy and explore the beauty, activities and natural wonders of Kauai. Located on a small hill in a quiet residential neighborhood, this home is a short walk to Poipu Beach Park and Brennecke Beach.

Step into the Spirit of Old Hawaii surrounded by colorful artwork and distinctive island furnishings. The living areas unfold with a comfortable breezy living room ... to the dining space with a massive round table ... to an intimate conversation seating area opening onto the expansive L-shaped covered lanai ... then one more adjacent family room space with ocean glimpses revealed through verdant foliage.

The galley kitchen with its practical and handsome finishes is a great platform for your culinary adventure. Many decorative plates, bowls and glassware provide for delightful table settings. Eat comfortably either inside, or out on the protected lanai (with the BBQ).

Breathe in the beauty of the bright bougainvillea and the fragrant plumeria bordering the grassy yard which encircles this home. In a private corner you can soak in the hot tub spa after a day of hiking, rafting or biking.

The peak point of enjoyment is the upper deck with its splendid, expansive view of the coastline, highlighting Brennecke and Poipu beaches. As the sun sets, this western view is a delight to enjoy the last rays from a memorable day in the comfortable lounge chair seating, or at the nearby table over pupus (hors d'oevres) and beverages.

The master suite on the ocean side has a four poster queen bed and features TV/DVD viewing. The master bath shower, floors and vanity are tiled in decorative travertine stone tiles.

The guest bedroom wing of the home features a king poster bed in one room and twin beds in the other. Both rooms offer TV/DVD viewing options. Both rooms share a "Jack and Jill" bath with fun, cobalt blue tiles at the shower and vanity.

Activities

Pack up the beach equipment including mats, chairs, cooler, sand toys and have a great day at the beach. Poipu Beach Park offers a large grassy area dotted with swaying coco palms. There are picnic tables, play equipment, showers, restrooms, even a convenience store and restaurant across the street.

Poipu Beach offers a sheltered cove called "Baby Beach" where toddlers play in the sand and splash in the shallow waters. A few steps away in the clear warm water, colorful tropical fish swim beneath as you snorkel just feet from the shore. The calm waters and gentle waves are enjoyed by swimmers of all capabilities. Experienced surfers can catch large-breaking waves further out beyond the reef. Brennecke Beach, at the east end of the park, is renowned for body surfing and boogie boarding.

If you bring your camera you may be able to capture on film a Monk Seal sleeping off a meal on the beach. Seals are protected so don't approach too closely.

Within a 2 mile radius of the house you will find two golf courses, some of Kauai's finest restaurants and charming island boutiques. When you venture beyond Poipu you will find a virtual paradise of activities: helicopter tours, horseback riding, river and ocean kayaking, whale-watching, botanical garden tours and much more, including many popular natural attractions such as the Na Pali Coast and Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific).
