Hanalei Pier

The Pier in Hanalei Bay was built in 1912 replacing the original that dated back to 1892. Originally built to help Kauai farmers move their taro crops to market. Its scenic location near the mouth of the Hanalei River and Black Pot Beach has long been a favorite family gathering place for fishing, picnicking, swimming, and playing. The pier's location was used extensively in the filming of the 1957 movie of Rodgers and Hammerstien's South Pacific. In 1979 the Hanalei Pier was placed on the US National Register of Historic Places. If you can't resist jumping in Hanalei Bay, a ladder bolted to the side will help you climb back up.
